Associate professor of Hydraulic Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and Delegate for Communication of the Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Main research activity is related to flood risk assessment and management, with a focus on flood damage (more than 60 publications, including 2 books, h-index (Scopus)= 14). Key role in national and international research projects (17 projects, 4 of which as PI) as well as in research agreement with public bodies dealing with flood risk in Italy. Chair of the Flood Risk Management Technical Committee of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). Editor of the journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (EGU).
Research experience focuses on flood risk assessment and management. Development of damage assessment tools, with a multidisciplinary approach, is at the core of the research, for both ex-post (on the bases of field investigation) and ex-ante analyses (following a synthetic approach). Investigated sectors include, but are not limited to: residential buildings, economic activities, critical infrastructures and people, both at the meso (municipal, provincial) and at the micro (object-level) scale. Applied research involves the use of developed tools for the evaluation of risk mitigation strategies, e.g. the CBA/MCA of flood risk management plans, the definition of Emergency Plans and Recovery Plans.
